President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to global peace, stability, and economic cooperation as he received Letters of Credence from 21 newly deployed foreign envoys in Abuja.
The diplomats, comprising 17 ambassadors and four high commissioners, were formally accredited at a ceremony held in the Council Chamber of the State House.
Addressing the envoys, Tinubu said Nigeria remains focused on strengthening democratic institutions, advancing economic reforms, and expanding partnerships that promote mutual prosperity. He urged them to work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and assured them of his openness to engagement on shared interests.
“Nigeria values its longstanding friendships across all regions,” the President said. “Your accreditation reaffirms our collective determination to deepen cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, technology, defence and cultural exchange. My doors remain open for constructive dialogue.”
Tinubu noted that global instability, climate pressures and evolving security threats require stronger international collaboration. He assured the diplomats of Nigeria’s readiness to work with their governments to address these challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the envoys, Japan’s Ambassador, Suzuki Hideo, described the moment as historic, noting Nigeria’s strategic influence in ECOWAS and Africa. He commended Tinubu for what he called “visionary leadership” and the administration’s economic and security reforms.
“Your bold reforms designed to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal framework and attract investment are highly recognised,” Hideo said. He added that Nigeria’s resilience and contributions to regional stability have earned it growing global respect.
The accredited envoys include representatives from Japan, Chad, Gabon, Türkiye, Palestine, Spain, Indonesia, Mauritania, Austria, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sweden, Czech Republic, Liberia, Ghana, India, Poland, Italy, Slovakia, Iran and Barbados.
Their arrival marks a renewed phase of diplomatic engagement as Nigeria seeks stronger foreign relations under the Tinubu administration.
